Egads, I've just joined about a billion communities on livejournal. Most of them have to do with my two greatest loves, fish and feminism! I will posting more about these things shortly, I'm sure!

First entry! I don't really have much to say, yet. Basically, I'm just your typical suburban college kid. I grew up being the type of girl who wore lots of pink and really, really liked horses. Now I'm the type of girl who wears lots of pink and has a better understanding as to WHY I so much really, really liked those horses. ;)
I read a lot of feminist blogs, such as Alas, a blog and Bitch Ph.D and feministing.com, so even though I'm not ready (or cool enough) to start my OWN feminist blog, I thought I would start with a kind-of-political-kind-of-personal one here. 'Cause like, the personal is political, and all that kind of stuff. Although you know, maybe I should've chosen a different site, because I don't know anyone on livejournal! Wah!! I'm going to have to figure out some way of meeting people.
So I'm something of a ditz -- I know, I know. Is that feminist of me, to "reclaim" a word like ditz? Probably not. It's just that, with so many academic feminist voices out there, I really sometimes feel that feminism gets this voice, like it must be spoken in at all times, that is really intensely alienating and NOT MINE. I'm not into that scene. I want to be taken seriously, though, even though I'm never going to get a degree above a BA. I want to be able to talk about things that don't assume a background in something I don't have and don't even want to have.
I hope this journal will be a fairly ACADEMICS-FREE zone. I want to talk about this stuff like it affects me and not like I'm trying to frame things in a way that will make me look smart.
OK, I think that's enough for this entry, wouldn't you say? I don't even know why I'm saying "you" -- nobody knows about this journal so far! :)
